Course Overview

The qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in wider employment and career progression opportunities. They will develop self-confidence and interpersonal skills, advance their communication skills and promote personal effectiveness. Learners will study Functional Skills maths and English alongside their vocational qualification, as well as being expected to undertake work experience as part of the study programme.

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 1 or above including maths and English
A successful interview with a member of the Progression Curriculum Team

Students will be expected to commit to the course and display good attendance and punctuality.

Assessment

Learners are assessed in a variety of ways. We establish a learner’s starting point within their induction in our courses and create a tailored learning package in line with the Initial Assessment results.
Assessment throughout the course is regular and appropriate; observations, completed written coursework, practical activities, presentations and work experience activities are utilised to assess the progression of our learners.

Progression

Successful completion of this course will equip learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to succeed in employment or further study.
Many of our learners progress on to our level 1 Vocational courses within the college. There is also an opportunity for EHCP learners to progress to our Pre-Supported Internships based at Cheadle and Altrincham campuses or one of our Supported Internship courses within Stepping Hill Hospital, Trafford Hospital and Trafford Council.

Career Options

On successful completion of this qualification, learners may pursue one of the college’s wide range of Level 1 vocational courses.

Learners with an EHCP who progress onto one of our Pre-Supported or Supported Internship programmes will have the opportunity to attend work placements and working interviews during their course, with the potential of paid employment.

Understanding Young People and Law
