Course Overview

The Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation aims to give students who have no prior experience of the electro-technical industry, a foundation introduction to the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for progression to the Level 2 qualification.

Students must be dedicated and committed to the requirements of the course and Trafford College with a high level of attendance and punctuality supported by continued home study.

Course Requirements

Applicants must have achieved a minimum of Grade 3 in both English and Mathematics. Also, 2 GCSE’s at Grade 2 or above in other subjects.

Applicants will also be required to complete an assessment, which must be successfully finished to a satisfactory standard prior to being offered a place on the course.

What you will Learn

In this course, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of key aspects of the construction industry. You will explore the structure of the construction industry, learning about the various roles and responsibilities of stakeholders involved in different types of projects. Emphasis will be placed on fundamental safe working practices to ensure a safe working environment, including risk assessment and the use of personal protective equipment.

You will also delve into environmental and sustainability measures specific to domestic dwellings, examining how to integrate eco-friendly practices into construction. The course will cover site preparation techniques, focusing on the importance of land assessment and compliance with regulations to lay a solid foundation for projects.

Additionally, you will learn the intricacies of electrical installation wiring and terminations, including best practices for safe and efficient electrical set ups. The course will introduce fabrication techniques for electrical installation, enhancing your skills in pre-assembly methods that streamline on-site work. Finally, you will explore the fundamentals of electrical science and technology, equipping you with the theoretical knowledge necessary for effective installation and troubleshooting in electrical systems.

By the end of this course, you will have developed a well-rounded skill set essential for progressing your learning for a career in the industry.

Assessment

The completion of a variety of written and practical assessments strategically planned during the academic year.

Progression

Learners who successfully meet the criteria set out in the vocational, maths and English directives, whilst also adhering to the standards of the Trafford College code of conduct may progress to the City & Guilds 8202-20 Level 2 Certificate in Electrical Installation.
