Stockport College’s T Level in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning is a two-year, technical study programme, designed with employers to give young people the skills required in industry. The study programme will provide a mixture of technical knowledge and skills specific to their chosen industry or occupation and an industry placement of at least 45 days in their chosen industry or occupation.
The course provides the underpinning knowledge for their chosen career pathway, the content of this qualifications has been designed to support progression to particular roles. The qualification content has been designed in consultation with employers, professional bodies and higher-education providers to ensure that the content is appropriate for the progression routes identified.
Students will learn about the following topics:
 Health and safety
 Science
 Measurement
 Building technology
 Information and data
 Digital technology
 Building Information Modelling
 Construction mathematical techniques
 Design
 Construction and the built environment industry
 Sustainability
 Relationship management
 Commercial business
 Project management
 Law
Additional content covered for occupational specialisms will also allow you to develop your problem-solving skills whilst working to a client brief. You will have the opportunity to design and develop construction projects whilst working in a collaborative environment.
There is also a large focus on transferable skills which have been identified by the employers identified below. These include:
 Applying a logical approach to solving problems, identifying issues and proposing solutions
 Communication skills (verbal, body language, group control, positioning)
 Creativity
 Critical thinking/problem solving-skills
 Collaboration skills

Course Requirements

5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including maths and English Language.

What you will Learn

This specialist course will also allow you to enhance your broader skills in literacy and numeracy, develop transferable skills in communication (working with real colleagues, customers, and clients) and undertake research and live project development work.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out via a variety of formal methods during your course plus assessments such as external exams, controlled assessments, an employer-led set project, and through practical assignments.

Progression

On successful completion of the course you will be perfectly placed to enter a specialism within the construction field or you may prefer to look at Construction management training.

T Levels will provide you with various progression options. These include skilled employment, apprenticeships and higher education.
