Course Overview

This Level 4 course is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning and is designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in Applied Sciences and forensic science. The course gives students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training in Applied Sciences related fields.

Course Requirements

Whilst applications are considered on an individual basis, offers are usually based on a requirement to have:

64 UCAS points from either:
– A L3 qualification in a relevant subject
– GCE A Levels
– An Access to Higher Education Diploma in a relevant area

Successful applicants are expected to have 4 GCSEs at grade C (grade 4) or above including maths and English

Mature students with relevant work experience and/or professional qualifications are welcome to apply, and may be invited to interview.

What you will Learn

You will develop knowledge and understanding of forensic science theories and practice and be able to apply these in a variety of contexts. The course introduces you to the world of the forensic scientist and crime scene investigator, exploring the methods of forensic analysis and the role of forensic science in society.

Assessment

The programme is assessed mainly using internally assessed centre-devised assignments. This will include a range of assessment methods including reports, case studies, practical assessments, project work, data analysis, research, investigation, problem-solving tasks and portfolios of evidence.

Progression

On successful completion you may progress our Level 5 HND Applied Science, which is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements for many relevant engineering Level 6 top up degree programmes in subject specialisms such as BSc (Hons) Forensic Science / Chemistry / Biology.

Career Options

On completion students may develop their career in this sector by entering or continuing existing employment. Students may consider roles such as:

Analytical chemist
Crime scene investigator
Forensic scientist
Scientific laboratory technician
Toxicologist
