Course Overview

This introductory practical course is for people interested in learning the basic principles and techniques of basic Carpentry and Joinery.

The course is of particular value to anyone wishing to build their skills to undertake small DIY home projects, small home renovations/repairs, craft projects or to simply learn a range of new skills.

Course Requirements

No specific qualifications, previous learning or experience is required. An initial assessment of each candidate will be made before the start of the programme to identify candidates that have any specific training needs support, credit they have accumulated and the appropriate type and level of qualification. There will be an induction programme, so the candidate fully understands the requirements of the qualification.

What you will Learn

You will learn how to use a variety of carpentry and joinery hand or portable power tools in a safe manner to undertake a range of woodworking tasks.

Assessment

Assessments are made for this qualification by completion of the activity workbooks for:

 Unit 101 Introduction to health and safety in construction and
 Unit 102 Introduction to the construction industry

All other practical units are assessed against the criteria prescribed by the Awarding Body.

Progression

Potential progression to higher level 1 and level 2 Carpentry and joinery programmes.

Potential career options include but are not limited to:

– Apprentice site carpenter or architectural joiner.
– Multi skills operative
