Course Overview

This programme is designed to follow the new national standards for Further and Higher Education. If you work as a trainer or want to begin teaching as a career this introductory course helps you to understand teaching methods, principles and skills required by the education sector. It is intended as a ‘taster’ and will provide you with a starting point if you wish to progress to a full teaching qualification.
This introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification has no minimum teaching practice requirement. Therefore, it may be undertaken by individuals who are not in a teaching role. However, there is a minimum requirement to take part in micro-teaching.

Course Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements although it is usual to have a Level 3 qualification in your subject area. Additionally, Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications are expected.

What you will Learn

Achieving this Award will provide sufficient evidence that you have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions, in a variety of teaching or training contexts.

Assessment

Assessment will be portfolio based and students will be required to take part in micro-teaching with their peers.

Progression

You can progress onto the Certificate or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Lifelong Learning) , or you can follow the training career path and complete the CIPD Certificate in Training Practice. You can also work towards Assessor or IQA qualifications.

Career Options

The award is widely recognised in community-based teaching and for companies who have a training requirement but no qualified staff. It is also the ideal qualification to begin your journey in teaching.
