Course Overview

This is an introductory practical course for anyone interested in learning the basic principles, skills, and techniques of plastering. Students will learn how to prepare background surfaces, apply scratch and floating coats, apply beads, dry-line, and skimming.

Plastering is one of the earliest instances of humanity’s power of inductive reasoning, for when people built, they plastered.

Course Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, you will have an interview with the specialist tutor to discuss your individual needs and expectations of the course outcomes.

What you will Learn

The course will provide you with knowledge of:
– Tool recognition, manipulation, and maintenance
– Applying floating coats to walls
– Applying Scratch coats to walls
– Installation of plasterboard
– Application of bead fixings
– Applying setting coats to plasterboard
– Mixing and applying lightweight plasters to backgrounds
– Mixing and applying settings coats to solid backgrounds.

Assessment

There is no formal examination, but tutors will continually assess your development needs throughout the short course.

Progression

Potential progression to full-time Level 1 and Level 2 Plastering qualifications.

Career Options

Upon completing the 10-week plastering course, students will be equipped with the basic foundational skills in plastering. While this course provides a solid introduction to plastering, additional experience and further training may be needed for more advanced positions in the construction industry.

– Plastering Labourer: Assisting skilled plasterers on-site with tasks such as mixing materials, preparing surfaces, and maintaining tools.
