Course Overview

The new Groundworker, Service Pipe and Meter Housing training programme has been designed to give installers the skills and knowledge to install meter and supply pipes in accordance with the water fittings regulations.

The training course and assessment have been approved for use in training by the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) on behalf of the water undertakers which participate in the Water Industry Approved Plumbers Scheme (‘WIAPS’) Approved Contractor Scheme.

The training is mainly aimed at persons wishing to become Approved Contractors for the WIAPS Groundworker Sector by providing evidence to the Approved Contractor scheme that appropriate training has been completed.

The training is also relevant to designers and site managers who are an integral part of ensuring pitfalls are avoided before, during and after the water connection is made.

Course Requirements

Trainees will need to have some knowledge of the water / construction industry.

What you will Learn

From giving a comprehensive overview of the main legislative and guidance documents relative to the control of Legionnaire’s disease and the disinfection of water systems to practical guidance on how to carry out a risk assessment of a cold and hot water system in a building and make recommendations to rectify the problems.

Assessment

There are no practical elements – all training is theoretical.
Assessment takes the form of a theory examination of 40 questions.
The Meter Housing Installation section is assessed by means of a separate question paper consisting of 10 questions.

Successful candidates will be able to use their certificate towards meeting the requirements of the Water / Utilities companies.
