Course Overview

For the installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points (EVSE) This course is aimed at those who would like to learn how to install Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment within domestic properties. This course is designed specifically for Domestic installers who wish to learn how to install, fault find and inspect and test domestic car charging points. With the recent announcements from the government regarding petrol and diesel cars it is estimated that by 2020 there will be 1.2 million electric cars on the road and by 2030 50% of vehicles produced will be an either electric or plug-in hybrid.

Course Requirements

Generally speaking candidates should be existing domestic installers most likely already registered on a competent person scheme:

Minimum age 18 years old (mandatory)

Must be able to carry out the following competencies:

Be competent to work on domestic electrical installations.
Be able to carry out an initial verification (inspection and testing) on an electrical installation and complete the necessary paperwork.
Be up to date with the latest Building Regulations requirements
Be up to date with the latest 18th Edition wiring regulations (Highly recommended but not compulsory)

What you will Learn

In the Domestic Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation Course, participants will gain knowledge and skills in installing and terminating steel wire armoured cable and PVC cable. The curriculum covers key requirements related to electric vehicle charging equipment, including an exploration of the advantages and disadvantages of various charging arrangements and equipment types. Students will learn the necessary preparations for the design and installation of electric vehicle charging equipment, focusing on domestic locations. The course includes practical training on planning, designing, and installing electric vehicle charging equipment for residential settings. Additionally, participants will understand the requirements for inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover procedures for such equipment in domestic locations. Assessment

Online Multiple Choice 40 questions exam (1 hour / open book)
Practical tests:
Task A – Design 30 mins
Task B – Install 1 hour
Task C – Initial Verification 1 hour

Progression

Upon successful completion of the course students can progress to the Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems
