Course Overview

These qualifications provide the ideal introduction to the construction industry and cover essential skills in the following construction trades: bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling, electrical and plumbing.

The phases cover the following trade areas:

Phase 1: Generic Units,
Phase 2: Wall & Floor Tiling, Painting & Decorating
Phase 3: Carpentry and Joinery
Phase 4: Plastering, bricklaying

These course is suitable for individuals wanting an introduction to the variety of construction trades, to gain skills in those areas and perhaps to decide which trade is the right one to pursue a career in.

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 2 or above (ideally with Maths and English).

What you will Learn

Learning for this course will take place both in the classroom and in the workshop. You will develop your skills in numerous trades such as Carpentry and Joinery,Painting and Decorating, Small Tiling and Plastering tasks and you will study theory aspects that cover Construction methods, types of buildings and their composition and aspects of Health and Safety found in construction. You will learn about calculating materials and resources needed for specific tasks including calculating area and volumes and also learn how to identify suitable tools and equipment for each discipline.

Assessment

Each unit is assessed via practical assignments that include underpinning knowledge

Progression

You could progress onto next level in construction skills, or focus on a specific area within the construction industry and go on to study plumbing, electrical installation, or carpentry at level 1. You could look to do an apprenticeship, or possibly see if there are any low level employment opportunities in any of the aforementioned fields

Career Options

Further study would likely be required, however, careers you could pursue down the line could include maintenance operative, joiner, carpenter, builder etc.
