Course Overview

This qualification is designed for individuals who want to start a career in the construction industry as a Bricklayer. You will develop the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to build, repair and maintain walls and other masonry structures in line with construction drawings and industry standards. Through a combination of hands-on training and theoretical learning, you will gain a strong understanding of the techniques, materials and safe working practices used within the bricklaying trade. The course provides an excellent foundation for further study, apprenticeships or employment in the construction sector.

Course Requirements

Applicants should have achieved four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, including English and Mathematics. You must also have successfully completed a Level 1 Bricklaying qualification.

What you will Learn

This course will equip you with the practical skills and technical knowledge required to work as a bricklayer within the construction industry. You will learn how to accurately set out building projects and construct masonry structures in line with Building Regulations and industry standards. Through hands-on training, you will develop the skills to build solid walls and piers, as well as cavity walls using brickwork and blockwork. You will also gain experience in installing lintels, wall ties and insulation, alongside creating a range of architectural features. These industry-relevant skills will prepare you for further training, apprenticeships, or employment within the bricklaying trade.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out through a combination of knowledge-based and practical assessments. You will complete end-of-unit multiple-choice tests to demonstrate your understanding of bricklaying principles, construction methods, and health and safety requirements. You will also undertake a final practical assessment, where you will demonstrate your ability to construct brickwork and blockwork structures to a specified standard, applying the skills and techniques developed throughout the course.

Progression

Successful completion of this qualification can lead to further study in Brickwork or other Construction-related qualifications at a higher level. Students may also progress onto a Bricklaying Apprenticeship, gaining valuable industry experience while continuing their training. The qualification provides a strong foundation for entering employment within the construction sector and developing a skilled career in the trade.

Successful completion of this qualification can lead to a rewarding career as a Bricklayer, working on residential, commercial and industrial construction projects. As you gain experience, you may choose to specialise in areas such as heritage brickwork, restoration, or stonemasonry, developing expertise in traditional and specialist construction techniques.
