Course Overview

This qualification is for those individuals who are looking to work in the construction industry,
specifically, as a craftsperson in carpentry and joinery.

Carpenters and joiners have the skills and knowledge to manufacture and install structural and non-structural timber products and components

Course Requirements

4 GCSE’s at Grade 3 or above (including English and Mathematics).
Applicants must have successfully completed a Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery course.

What you will Learn

Students will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when working as a Site carpenter or bench joiner or progressing to further learning and training in wood occupations.

Assessment

End unit Knowledge multi choice questioning
A final practical assessment that demonstrates competence in building structures in timber or producing architectural components in timber or timber-based products.

Progression

Progression onto higher level courses in Site carpentry, architectural joinery or Construction.
Progression into Apprenticeship or employment.

Career Options

Following successful completion of this qualification, students will be qualified to work in the construction industry as a site carpenter, bench joiner, property maintenance or in wood manufacturing occupations.

Timber technology

Note: Health and safety in a construction environment is an imported unit that covers the health and safety knowledge that is required to gain a CSCS Green Card for access to construction sites in the UK.

First fix carpentry
Second fix carpentry
Circular saw

Architectural joinery route:
Planning and preparation for setting out and marking out architectural joinery
Use of woodworking machinery
Architectural joinery component production
Assembly and finishing of architectural joinery product
